Hammering with Hope

Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette is "Hammering with Hope"...Purdue football coach Danny Hope!

Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette, in collaboration with Purdue football coach Danny Hope, will build up to three houses for Greater Lafayette families in 2009! This project unites the Purdue University community of alumni, faculty, staff and students, as well as the Greater Lafayette community. We will work together to provide quality, affordable housing.

The "Hammering with Hope" kicked-off on October 5, with a home honoring Coach Joe Tiller and construction is in full swing! The Romero's home, built in honor of Coach Joe Tiller, will be blessed on Sunday, December 20 th at 4 PM at 2601 Poland Hill Road, Lafayette. Everyone is welcome!

One of the homes is being constructed by Purdue's Habitat for Humanity Student Campus Chapter in collaboration with other clubs and student organizations on campus. Each year the Purdue Student Campus Chapter builds a home with Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette. To learn more about the Student Campus Chapter click here.

Meet the Families!

Introducing the Sniders...

Keith and Kylee Snider look forward to building their new home on Poland Hill Road during the fall of 2009. They are the proud parents of two-year-old Zander Lee. Keith grew up in Veedersburg, IN, while Kylee has always called Lafayette home. Kylee is a stay-at-home mom. Keith works the second shift at SIA through CTI, a temporary employment agency.

This young family enjoys going on long walks, taking along their camera to get some good shots. Keith has an interest in photography, both taking his own images and viewing those of others. He uses Photoshop for editing. Kylee likes to read, crochet, and scrapbook. They attend Harvest Chapel Church.

Introducing the Romeros...

Mario Ahuatl and Ana Maria Perez were both born in Mexico, but have resided in Lafayette for the past 8 years. Together they have three children, Mario Jr. (7), Michelle (3 ½), and Ashli (1).

Mario is employed at Mid-America as a repairman. He also works part-time at the restaurant, TGIF Fridays. Outside of work, the family attends St. Boniface Catholic Church, where Mario Jr. will begin communion classes this fall.

Mario Jr. and his father like to play soccer, while Ana enjoys cooking. Math is Mario Jr.’s favorite subject. Michelle likes to play that she’s a princess and Ashli loves to drink milk!

Introducing Brian Sholty...

Brian Sholty and the Habitat Student Chapter at Purdue will be partnering this fall/winter to build his house at 2609 Poland Hill Road. In addition, Purdue Extension is working with Brian to make his a Universal Design house. A Universal Design building is designed and built to provide a certain minimum level of accessibility to a person with a physical disability.

Brian grew up in Delphi, IN, but currently resides in Lafayette and has worked at Wabash Center for the past 5 years. His main interest is working with disabled adults and children, which he does as a production supervisor at Wabash Center. He is a member of Eastside Assembly of God, where he is involved in various church activities. This summer he was part of a mission team from his church that traveled to Nicaragua, where they built a chapel at a school for the deaf.
