Aluminum Can Build
For the past 10 years, Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette's motto has been “no can left behind.” After collecting approximately 4.6 million cans and recycling, we have raised enough money to build a home!
It all started with a 5th grade teacher and a dream of engaging students. Over the past 10 years it has grown to not only include various elementary school classrooms, to the Boy Scouts, to Lowe's, Alcoa, Pizza Hut, Waste Management and most recently TEAMM (Tippecanoe Assocation of Ministers and Ministries). This project truly has engaged the entire communitiy.
Construction kicked-off at late September and the house is almost finished! Please join us to celebrate the House Blessing on Sunday, November 15 @ 4PM. at 1315 N. 28th Street. All are welcome!
Currently the Boy Scouts are continuing to collect cans for this project through the Scouts and Habitat CAN collection program. For more information please click here.
Meet the Family!
Monticello native Tonya Wilson and her son, Isaiah (14), have lived in Lafayette for three years. As members of First Assembly of God, they are both very active in Sunday School, youth group, and home fellowship.
Tonya is a preschool teacher at Faith Christian School, where Isaiah is also a student. He participated on the wrestling team at school this year and is an avid reader of Christian fiction. Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti are his favorite authors. He also enjoys playing computer and video games. While Tonya likes to spend time with friends, her favorite thing is spending quality time with her son. They like to go to free spring and fall movies at the movie theatre and ride roller coasters!
