How your church can partner with Habitat

•Pray that lives and communities are transformed by God.

•Support the ministry side of Habitat: More than Houses
Many organizations require that staff find mission support from sending churches. Habitat does not require such from its staff. However, every position with Habitat is a mission position. Habitat ministers to a wide variety of people from partner families, volunteers, donors, and community service volunteers, to sometimes even bystanders.
As Habitat continues to see a wide variety of both physical and spiritual needs in the community, funding for More than Houses is crucial for meeting such needs.
Consider adding Habitat’s More than Houses to your church mission budget.

•Build a house (full and partial sponsorships)
Join an existing build:

Presbyterian Build
Lutheran Build/Thrivent Build
Catholic Build
Apostle Build Click here to download the Faith Agreement for the Apostle Build.

Sponsor a whole house:
House sponsorship is $40,000. Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette is a tithing affiliate and gives $4,000 (per house built in the Greater Lafayette Community) toward building houses in a developing country (see our International Projects page). If your congregation would like to provide the tithe as well, house sponsorship is $44,000. Habitat staff will work with your church to provide support in fundraising, starting committees, and planning the build. For more information on building with Habitat, please view the House Sponsorship Manual.

•Become a family advocate and work side-by-side with a partner family
"In 2005 I signed on as a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity Women's Build. I was inspired by the experience of working with the partner family and other Habitat volunteers to make the dream of home ownership a reality. I wanted to be a permanent part of the Habitat volunteer family. I signed on as an Advocate, because I wanted to work right along side partner families. I have had the privilege of working with two single mothers, and I have been inspired by their hard work and dedication. I attended Home Ownership classes with my partner families, and encouraged them while they attended the New Focus financial classes. It was a special joy to see how becoming Habitat home owners changed their lives. The process of working through their sweat equity hours, getting insurance, and getting their financial matters in order gave them confidence in their ability to succeed. I came to know these mothers very well. We have laughed together, cried together, and prayed together. They have the same basic needs that all families have. They need to know that they are loved and accepted without strings. They need to know that they are valuable, important and capable, and they need to know that they do not have to face life's challenges alone. They are so grateful for a safe, secure place to live and raise their children. I am so grateful for the chance to know them. My role in their lives now is to continue to provide encouragement, a positive influence and support. Habitat for Humanity has provided me with an opportunity to make a difference. I value being part of a program that lets families keep their dignity by working to achieve their own goals." ~Bev Carnes, Habitat Family Advocate
